I agree. But I want to point out right away that your principle wouldn't justify a lot of the affirmative action programs that currently exist. They go way beyond what you've suggested. And that's part of the problem.
If we adopt a principle like yours, we have to be very careful to see that we don't start stretching it a little here and a little there until we are compensating all the wrong people and making all the wrong people pay for it. I'm not sure we can do it. But I do believe in the compensation you are talking about right now.
But what is the basis of your principle? How would you justify it?
