Warren grants that an embryo or fetus is a potential person. More important, she agrees that a potential person might have a right to life; but she denies that its right can outweigh the rights of a fully developed person.

Warren claims that "the rights of any actual person invariably outweigh those of any potential person, whenever the two conflict." Her view seems to be that even the minor rights of an actual person outweigh the most important rights of a potential person. Can you think of analogies to support or refute this view? For example, consider animals. If you believe that animals have a right not to be tortured, would you allow that this right can be outweighed by even the most trivial right of a person? If there were a race of superior beings (however that be defined) would the rights of humans (even our right to live) always be outweighed in a conflict with theirs? How exactly do we "weigh" rights?
