- Few opponents of abortion would deny the mother the right
to terminate her pregnancy if it did not harm the embryo/fetus.
If we had excellent artificial wombs that could take over gestation
at any time, the decision to terminate would be more like deciding
to bottle feed rather than breast feed a baby. They do not deny
her a right to control her body, but they claim that its exercise
is limited by the impact on the child.
- Liberals on the abortion issue do not have to argue that the
mother has the right to kill the fetus or have it killed. They
can argue instead that she has, within limits, the right to withdraw
the use of her body from the embryo/fetus, even if it dies as a result.
