It should be added that Wennberg's position is much more complex
than this paragraph suggests. He has grave concerns about the
number of abortions in the U.S. He believes that fetal life is
valuable, and becomes more valuable as pregnancy continues. Therefore,
he concludes, the reasons needed to justify abortion must be more
and more serious as time goes on. He also concludes that moral
suasion (rather than the law) ought to be used to reduce the number
of abortions.
(Remember that when a philosopher says that a woman has the right to abort, he or she is not saying that abortion is a good thing or the best thing to do. Notice also that Wennberg does not say that the embryo has no right to life, but rather that it does not have a right to its mother's body.)
