Golden Rule: Objections

A critic of the golden rule argument might point out that it does not seem to address the key issue. Most writers who defend a liberal view of abortion argue for a woman's right to abort under a wide range of circumstances. They do not necessarily approve of any given abortion. Someone might, with perfect consistency, maintain (1) that he or she is glad that his or her mother did not get an abortion; and (2) that his or her mother nevertheless had the right to terminate her pregnancy. Aren't these separate issues? What do you think?
