Pro-Life: Human Life | ||
| Agree | Disagree | ||
John and Barbara Willke have made the following argument: Religious and philosophical definitions of human life cannot be verified and should not be used in a secular nation to make public policy. Natural science, however, can supply us with a verifiable definition based on the facts of human growth and development. Upon fertilization a new cell exists with a complete set of 46 human chromosomes. It is clearly alive since it takes nutrition and grows. It is clearly human because it has the same chromosomes as an adult human. It is a separate human being from its mother since its chromosomes are not the same as hers. In short, this new being is just as human as any adult. Therefore, it must have the same rights (including the same right to life) as any adult. Abortion is therefore just as wrong as killing an adult.
