There is widespread support for abortion in cases where a woman's
life is threatened by carrying a pregnancy to term. Most (but
not all) conservatives on the issue will allow for this exception.
Assume, for example, that a woman has a heart condition and is
likely to die in labor. It seems obvious to many people that she
may defend herself even if she must take a life to do so. Could
she not defend herself if attacked by an adult?
If you wish to take this position, however, you must develop a more precise view of the basis and the content of the right of self-defense. Without such a view, self-defense may turn out to justify too few or too many abortions.
