Yeah, property is
an extremely important issue. In our economic
system, we allow individuals and groups of
individuals to own not just small things like
houses and cars but even the most important
components of the economy like factories,
mines, farms -- practically anything.
My point is that our system
hands over control of those things to
individuals. And those individuals are allowed
to make decisions that have a huge impact on
millions of other people without consulting
them at all. A family may own a factory in a
small town and decide to outsource the work to
China. The people of the town have essentially
nothing to say about it.
Does a system like that need
a justification? I think so. And I'm not so
sure there is one.
