A Discussion of Rawls

(Click here to continue on the main path)

Professor Sidgwick Speaking
Thank you all for coming back for another session. Yes, thank you very much, indeed.

In our last session we tried to lay out the theory of justice advanced by John Rawls in his very influential work A Theory of Justice. It's a complicated theory, but I think you did a good job of clarifying the essentials.

We did not criticize Rawls in the last session, we only tried to describe his views. I asked everyone to hold off on criticism until now. Today I would like you to state your main criticisms of Rawls. I know there are lots of things that could be said. But let's try to be brief so that we can get on to talking about alternative theories.

So let's get started. What do you think of Rawls?
