Relativism: For and Against

(Return to main path)

Professor Sidgwick Speaking
I think that a lot of the questions you identified in the first session can be grouped under the three broad questions I have listed here.

Your questions about cultural differences, whether they are fundamental, and what implications they have for ethics can be brought in under my first question.

Your questions about whether there is such a thing as an objective system of ethics, whether we can talk about conflicting judgments as true or false, and whether there is a single true system could be brought in under my second and third questions about alternatives.

Your questions about the connection between ethical relativism and tolerance and non-interference will be dealt with in our next session.
